How to play Snail Racer

Snail Racer turns racing upside down: the goal is to finish last. Every instinct works against you — a speed boost becomes a trap, an obstacle becomes a friend. This guide covers the modes, controls, all ten levels, the hazards and items, and the tactics that win you last place.

Game modes

  • Endless — survive as long as you can on an ever-faster track; your score is the time you last. Hits the global leaderboard.
  • Levels — ten hand-built tracks, each unlocking the next. The slowest finish time wins.
  • Couch co-op — two players on one keyboard, split screen (keyboard required).
  • Online multiplayer — up to four players race live. Host a room or join with a four-digit code; slowest still wins.

Controls

Keyboard: W/S or the up/down arrows change lane. Space fires a bomb backward, F throws a skateboard forward, C lays a slime trail. Esc quits the race.

Couch co-op player 2: the up/down arrows move, Enter fires a bomb, the period (.) throws a skateboard, the slash (/) lays slime.

Touch: on phones and tablets, on-screen Up / Down / Fire / Skate / Slime buttons appear automatically.

The ten levels

Each level introduces a new idea and unlocks the next. Remember: slowest time wins, so the chaos is your ally.

  1. The BeginningLearn to move; eat leaves and bump snails to slow down.
  2. Snack & slipRestaurants slow you; water and ice speed you up — avoid them.
  3. ArsenalBombs fire backward, skateboards forward — pick your targets.
  4. The SquirtsEat at a restaurant to load slime, then leave a burning trail.
  5. All weapons freeEvery mechanic is active — compete smartly.
  6. AI awakensThe AI sweeps slime across the lanes — there is always a hit lane.
  7. Hot pursuitThe AI fires bombs point-blank and turns your fire against you.
  8. Slime stormSlime everywhere, few safe lanes — move carefully.
  9. Three against youThree ruthless AI snails — outsmart or trick them.
  10. Final bossMaximum chaos, every tactic in play. Good luck.

Obstacles & hazards

Leaves 🍃 and NPC snails 💋 slow you down (good!). Restaurants 🍝 slow you and load a slime charge. Water 💧 and ice 🧊 speed you up — usually something to avoid. In Endless after five minutes, pesticide ☠️ and barbed wire cost a life, oil slicks 🛢️ slip you sideways, and a garage 🏚️ inverts your controls for eight seconds. Gaps in the track are instant death, and the police 🚓 and forester 🌲 chase you down — wiggle between lanes to outrun them.

Items & weapons

You can carry up to three bombs 💣 and three skateboards 🛹. A bomb fires backward at the nearest snail behind you; a skateboard fires forward at the snail ahead — both catapult their target forward, costing them time. The slime trail 💩 (unlocked by eating at a restaurant) burns rivals who drive through it.

Winning tactics

Think backwards. A skateboard fired forward helps the snail ahead reach the finish — rarely what you want. Picking up water or ice speeds you up, so weigh it carefully. Eat leaves, bump snails and linger in restaurants to bleed off speed. Save your bombs and slime to push rivals across the line ahead of you. And when the police chase you in Endless, rapid lane changes give a wiggle boost to escape.

Playing online

Choose online multiplayer from the menu, then host a room or join a friend with the four-digit room code. Up to four snails race the same track live from different devices — phone against laptop, couch against the other side of the country. The last-place rule still applies, so it is gloriously chaotic.
